1. Who we are

This website is operated by divetodone.com. Our site address is https://divetodone.com.

We value your privacy and are committed to handling your personal data transparently and responsibly. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

2. Comments

When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information you provide in the comment form — your name, email address, and website (if given) — along with your IP address and browser user agent. This data helps us detect and prevent spam.

Your email address may be used to generate an anonymized hash sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture linked to it. Once your comment is approved, your Gravatar (if any) becomes publicly visible next to your comment.

Your email address is never displayed publicly. Only the avatar image associated with it (via Gravatar) may appear next to approved comments.

3. Media uploads

If you upload images to the website, please avoid images that contain embedded GPS location data (EXIF metadata). Visitors to the site may download those images and extract any location information stored within them.

We do not automatically strip EXIF data from uploaded files, so it is your responsibility to remove sensitive location info before uploading.

4. Cookies

We use cookies in a few specific situations. Here is a breakdown of what gets set and why:

Comment preferences

If you opt in when leaving a comment, your name, email, and website are saved in cookies so you do not need to re-enter them next time. These cookies last for one year.

Browser check

When you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to verify whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Login session

If you log into the site, we set cookies to keep your session active and remember your display preferences. Login cookies last for two days. If you select “Remember Me”, your session persists for two weeks. Logging out removes all login cookies.

Post editor

When you publish or edit a post, a cookie stores the ID of the article you worked on. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.

5. Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or external articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited those websites directly.

Those third-party sites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, add tracking scripts, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content — particularly if you are logged in to an account on those platforms. We have no control over their data practices.

6. Who we share your data with

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.

The only case where your data is shared with a third party by our system is during a password reset: if you request one, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes. Comments may also be checked through an automated spam detection service, which receives the comment content and associated metadata.

7. How long we retain your data

Approved comments and their metadata are stored indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognize and approve future follow-up comments from the same user without holding them in a moderation queue.

For registered users, we store the personal information provided in your profile for as long as your account exists. You can view, update, or delete your personal information at any time — with the exception of your username, which cannot be changed. Site administrators may also access and edit this information.

8. Your rights over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left a comment, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Export: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you, in a portable format.
  • Erasure: Request that we delete your personal data, subject to any legal or security obligations that require us to retain certain records.
  • Correction: Update or correct the information stored in your profile at any time (except your username).
  • Access: Request information about what data we hold about you and how it is being used.

To exercise any of these rights, please use the contact information at the bottom of this page.

9. Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be processed by an automated spam detection service. In the case of a password reset, your IP address may be included in system-generated emails.

This site is hosted on servers that may be located outside your country of residence. By using this site, you consent to the transfer of your data to those servers in accordance with this policy.

10. Contact

If you have questions about this policy, want to exercise your data rights, or have a concern about how your information is handled, please reach out via the contact page on this website. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
